Hyoun-Ah Kim, MD, PhD is a rheumatologist and Professor of Medicine at Ajou University School of Medicine, Suwon, Korea. She completed her rheumatology training at Ajou University Hospital from 2007 to 2009 and has extensive clinical experience in the management of a wide range of rheumatic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD).
Her primary research interests focus on acute inflammation and biomarker discovery in AOSD, with particular emphasis on the role of damage-associated molecular patterns in disease pathogenesis. In parallel, she has been actively involved in clinical research on osteoporosis and bone health in patients with rheumatic diseases, exploring the impact of chronic inflammation, disease activity, and long-term anti-rheumatic therapies on skeletal outcomes.
Dr. Kim is a contributing investigator in the Korean College of Rheumatology Biologics & Targeted Therapy Registry. From 2019 to 2020, she was a visiting scholar at the University of Colorado, Denver, where she participated in research on the preclinical phase of RA. She aims to translate insights from preclinical RA studies into a better understanding of chronic articular involvement and structural damage in AOSD.
